Time to introduce another classy act from Belgium: Flying Horseman. Actually we shouldn’t have to introduce them at all, because you MUST know their debut album “Wild Eyes“. But anyway: It’s the band of singer-songwriter Bert Dockx and are the best at creating a dark, mysterious but comfortable atmosphere. The press release describes the new album “Twist” very beautiful: “Think in terms of menacing post-folk and dark blues, with the emotional depth and soul-lacerating atmosphere that characterises Flying Horseman. Music is rarely given such a keen edge.” Couldn’t say it better. Just start listening to the album and you will be sucked immediately into the world of Flying Horsemand from the opening track “t.m.l.” until the last second of “Animals”. This music contains a lot of layers and with every layer they create, you get more and more addicted to the beautiful but imminent atmosphere. It’s the ultimate soundtrack of the night: dark and powerful. Something we’ve been waiting for for years: a brand new Sigur Rós track! It’s called “Ekki Múkk” (translated via Google translate into “Not Seagull”) and will be on the new album “Valtari” out on May 28. It’s very beautiful: cracks at the beginning of the song, the voice of Jonsi coming through it and some hauntingly beautiful post-rock following all this. Perfect!
Secretly Canadian got another killer release for us. Because on May 21th, Exitmusic will release their debutalbum “Passage” on this magical label. You might know Exitmusic from their EP “From Silence”, released in the Fall of 2011 via SC and containing 4 strong tracks. If not check it out here!
This Ep was truely great and now we will get an album which probably will be even better. Because after listening to the track “Passage” (free download btw!) I was overwhelmed by the wall of sound, the emotion and the purity of this music. Really looking forward to that album! Stream it here:
With autumn coming up, we think it’s that time of the year again, to let our speakers explode with some hard, fantastic and magical Post-rock, don’t you agree? After those gay disco tracks we played all summer long, we return as badass motherfuckers with Audiocæneat (only that unspeakable name makes the band already very cool). This German band makes beautiful music floating in between Sigur Ros, Mogwai and Smashing Pumpkins (Who? Fuck you hipster! check this out). They released their debut album “Red Sessions” in 2010, but because it’s too fantastic not to know it, our friends at Frontal Noize decided to re-release it in Europe. We gave the record a few spins and we were really surprised and blown away by the massive wall of sound with ingenious use of guitars and the tight drumming. Like the track we posted above (it’s our favourite one on this album). At the beginning the guitar comes in rather subtle and stays there through the entire track, but at the same time hell breaks lose and gives you a very hard but pleasant kick in the nuts, if that’s possible. And the vocals surprised me, it’s a nice extra touch. For an entire review in Dutch, go to hadrian est ou?
A new track by WU LYF has emerged on the internet! It’s the track “Go tell fire to the mountian” that was supposed to be on their debut album. But they never liked the end result and kept on reworking the track untill now. They are finally happy with the result, and so are we. The typical WU LYF vocals, the organ, weeping guitars, a very ominous sound that swells towards the end of the track and an overal feeling of the untamed wilderness…. Great stuff! Stream the track below.
Another track that made my day is a brand new Explosions in the sky! Hoo-fucking-ray! “Trembling Hands” will be featered on their upcoming album new album “Take Care, take care, take care”, out on April 26! Live shows all over the world, I’ll be attending the one at Brussels. It’s gonna be magical! Back to the track, it sounds cool. With some “oh oh oh” vocals in the beginning and magnificent drums it sounds a bit different. Cool thing is that the vocals are there for the sound and not what they mean. So it’s still an instrumental track by these post-rock gods. A nice track to make us more curious then we were for the new album… We want more!
We’ve already mentioned the new Mogwai album “Hardcore will never die, but you will” in a previous post with a free download from one song. This time we’ve found a link were you can stream the full album and start to headbang on this crazy post-rock! Check it out:
