I wanted to post something about an awesome brazilian singer / actor called Sue Jorge who is described as a samba artist, which he is but also so much more. A couple of years ago he was asked to play and also make music in and for Wes Anderson’s film The Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou, in which he covered some of David Bowie songs in Portuguese. Which were really good, you can download his version of “Life on Mars” below. But now he has formed this new band called Almaz, which he made an album with that was released this summer and is again filled with covers from artist like Michael Jackson to Roy avers. And now they release a new 12″ single: a cover from Kraftwerk, Das Model.
The Kraftwerk cover, is as all covers should be totally different form the original and has a nice kind of Western-like vibe, and a really really nice reverb on the singing of Sue which gives the song a lot of depth. And maybe this sounds weird: but for me it’s like this cover is made for a strip-club somewhere in the middleof the desert in Mexico or Texas. So check it out and let me know if you also see desert-strippers when listening to this song.
Jamie Lidell gets remixed by tUnE-yArDs! What about perfection? It fucking exists, and is right here in front of you! The original track was already awesome, this great rythmic remix is even greater! Such a BIG BIG BIG tune, can’t tell anything else about this. this is mindblowing and very lovely! The drums reminding remiding me of These New Puritains, the heavenly singing reminding me of Dirty Projectors… Too much great stuff to tell about this song, just listen and love it!
And as a bonus, a very cool bonus! Two songs from the new and long awaited Sufjan Stevens album “The Age of Adz”! As a free download available on his bandcamp site, linked below. What can you expect? Not the beautiful guitars and other instruments from his EP “All Delighted People”, but an experiment with electronics! First track “I walked” sounds really great! A new Sufjan sight, but an awesome one! He can do anything he wants, and mostely that’s brilliant; but sometimes a bit over the top like you can hear in “Too Much”… But still: It’s sufjan and of course it’s the best we’ve got for you this week! Check out the two songs and get them for free!
Belgians next superstar, Selah Sue is doing great the last years. Solo with here ragga/guitar songs and with AKS as a drum & bass/dubstep project. We prefer the solo setting, but the dubstep tracks are awesome as well. With great songs like “Raggamuffin” or “Fyah Fyah” she’s ready to conquer the world. Starring in programs as Taratat and playing the big stages around the world like on Lowlands, Pukkelpop or Blue Balls Festival; everybody is getting to know Selah Sue. Now it’s your turn, check out 2 free songs (thanks to last.fm):
Some new stars on the horizon: Fool’s Gold is a collaboration between two artists from L.A. with a mutual-passion for World Music. This song is in Hebrew, so you can’t really understand the lyrics, but this song has such a nice vibe, you got to listen to it! A really summerish song with a sound which reminds me of Vampire Weekend and Yeasayer! Can’t be bad!
A few people asked me to share the MGMT cover made by Jonsi, so here it is. Not a bad version, but I prefer the original one. But as everybody knows, Jonsi can’t do anything wrong and proves it with this cover.
A big tune, in a Schlachthofbronx remix! Schlachthofbronx make some of the best remixes around these days, they are funky and hard! World music conquers the dancefloor thanks to this guy! (remeber this track)
